This course willl give an overview of significant changes in the library/information environment, and their consequences for information providers.

  • Library/information places and spaces – real and virtual
  • New forms of access – repositories and open access
  • New types of resources and interfaces – web 2.0 and more

  • Future-proofing – how can library/information specialists respond to these trends and develop their skills

Why you should attend
In a rapidly changing library/information environment, itself set within a rapidly changing social, economic and technical context, it can be difficult for information specialists to feel confident that they are up-to-date with the latest trends and issues. And perhaps even more difficult to know what to do about it.

This highly-participative course gives an overview of some important recent changes in the 'information landscape', and helps participants make plans for how to keep up-to-date, and how to 'future proof' their careers.

On completing the course, you will:

  • Understand the significance of recent developments
  • Appreciate ways of keeping up-to-date with developments
  • Have formed a plan for career development in rapidly changing times
