For those who have gained experience in information work there is the opportunity to become self-employed or undertake specific projects (as a consultant or broker). The projects could range from finding specific information for clients, undertaking contract-based indexing, abstracting or records management projects, in fact any number of possibilities relating to Library and Information work. Professional bodies can provide guidance to people considering becoming self-employed.
